Alexandra Johnson, Psy.D.

Dr. Alex Johnson is a licensed psychologist who works with emerging adults and adults who are experiencing a variety of difficulties including anxiety, depression, medical/health issues, work/life balance, life transitions, and interpersonal relationship issues. She specializes in working with women’s issues and college students. Dr. Johnson works to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for her clients. As a therapist she is highly warm and supportive, while also providing feedback that is direct and honest.

Dr. Johnson uses evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which means that there is research that demonstrates the effectiveness of the interventions that she uses. Dr. Johnson tailors her approach in therapy to meet each client’s individual needs and goals. She strongly believes in the importance of considering and understanding the impact of the sociocultural context when providing clinical services.

Prior to joining the practice, Dr. Johnson worked at Florida State University Counseling Center where she provided individual and group counseling to college students. Go Noles! Dr. Johnson completed her APA-Accredited internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of South Florida Counseling Center where she received specialty training in health psychology. She earned her doctoral and master’s degrees in clinical psychology from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed specialty training in cognitive therapy from the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has experience working in four large university counseling centers.
