Jeffrey George is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Family Psychology Associates. He is an expert in Marital Therapy, with certifications from the International Centre for Excellence in Emotion-focused Therapy (ICEEFT), The Gottman Institute and Imago Relationships International. He also specializes in depth-oriented psychotherapy with individual men and women.
Dr. George received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a major in Psychology. After working in the radio and television broadcasting industry for five years, Jeff returned to graduate school at Indiana State University where he completed his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology in 1996.
Dr. George completed his internship training at the Southern Louisiana Internship Consortium, which is comprised of a major rotation at the Louisiana State University Mental Health Service. While at LSU, Dr. George developed a special interest in growth-oriented (meaning-based) psychotherapies, group psychotherapy, sports psychology, and marital and couples therapy. He continues to apply a practical, meaning-based approach to his work with individuals, families and couples today.
Upon finishing internship, Dr. George entered the field as a psychologist working at the Behavior Treatment Program at East Louisiana State Hospital, which involved the implementation of a token economy system for severe behavior disorders among adolescents and adults. He then transitioned to hospital-based practice at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he was the Director of Psychology Services, Pain Management Program.
Dr. George and his family moved to the Tampa Bay area in 2001 and he has been an associate at Family Psychology Associates since October of that year and a partner in the practice since 2008. His focus in private practice has been treating adults and adolescents (age 13 and up) for a variety of life challenges including the anxiety-spectrum disorders (e.g., social anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder), Major Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, and life transition problems (e.g., grief, relationship issues, decision-making concerns.) His particular area of expertise involves marriage and couples’ psychotherapy for which he has completed advanced training and certification in Emotion-focused couples’ therapy (EFT), Gottman Method couples therapy and Imago Relationships International. Dr. George continues to enjoy facilitating group therapy, family interventions, and growth-oriented, interpersonal psychotherapy for adults.
